Lets look at a big game this weekend for your College Football picks that isn’t a Championship game, it's the one involving the West Virginia Mountaineers . As well Ohio State is still in the mix for the BCS Championship , even though they are sitting at home in the final days of the season.
When the Ohio State Buckeyes lost to the Illinois Fighting Illini a few weeks back, analysts wrote of OSU’s chances at the BCS title. The Buckeyes would play Michigan before their season concluded and that wouldn’t be enough time to climb back up the BCS ladder, they argued.
Well guess what happened? Ohio State is still in the thick of the BCS championship hunt and up to two scenarios will possibly allow (final BCS standings permitting) the Buckeyes to punch tickets to Louisiana in early January—not for the Sugar Bowl either.
If the Missouri Tigers lose and drop in the standings, OSU could move up to the No. 2 spot in the BCS and a West Virginia loss would do wonders too.
On paper, there is no reason why the BCS’ No. 2 team, the West Virginia Mountaineers , should lose to the Pitt Panthers this Saturday. The Mountaineers have a decided advantage over the Panthers with more talent and a better record—WVU is being listed as a massive favorite at -28½.
But unseeded teams have been taking down No. 2 ranked teams all season and it appears the betting public are in tune with this unusual trend, as it is the big underdog Pitt that is getting a majority of the action , seeing 60% of the betting volume.
As we’ve seen all season at the college level, you never know…..
