While much of the talk to this point of the college football betting season has been about all the top seed picks that have failed to maintain their respective positions, little has been made of the fresh faces and amongst the Top 25 in the polls.Â
Of course many of the usual suspects are still there, including current consensus No. 1 Ohio State, but if you take a look up and down the polls you might be surprised.
Boston College is usually in the ACC mix but not in contention for the BCS title and that’s exactly where they find themselves, currently ranked No. 2. When you think of the Pac-10 elite, USC, Cal and Oregon come to mind but if you take a look at the standings it’s Arizona State that is King of the Hill, currently ranked 4 and 6 in the BCS and AP polls.
But the most surprising of teams could be the University of Kansas in the No. 8 spot.Â
During Tom Osborne’s coaching career at Nebraska, the Cornhuskers would regularly steamroll the opposition and Kansas was a victim on many occasions. But interim Athletic Director post aside, Osborne hasn’t been with the team in a while and the ‘Huskers have slowly eroded. Going into this week, Kansas will play host to Nebraska and unlike days past it is the Jayhawks that are the favorite.
SportsBetting.com has Kansas listed as an 18½-point favorite and who would’ve thought that?Â
The betting public clearly aren’t used to seeing the ‘Huskers as this big a dog in their conference, not against a perennially weak Jayhawk team. Nebraska is attracting almost 75% of the betting action getting almost 20 points.
