College Football Picks 2011 Week 10: Several teams in action this weekend could be in make or break spots when it comes to potential bowl bids; other teams, already assured of a post-season game, are fighting to secure a BCS slot. Two squads in the former category are Big 12 rivals Missouri and Baylor, who are scheduled to clash at Floyd Casey Stadium tomorrow night. Stanford fits the latter description as it will move further up the BCS standings when either Alabama or LSU loses.
Missouri Tigers vs Baylor Bears (-2.5): Neither of these teams are ranked but they both have been in the top 25 at some
point during the season. Each team has four wins, but getting to a bowl eligible six may not be easy for the loser of this contest. Missouri can almost assure itself of a postseason berth if it can slip by the Bears as it closes out the season with home games against Texas, Texas Tech, and Kansas. While the Longhorns and Red Raiders are both solid clubs, Kansas is not. Baylor, with a win, would also enjoy some assurance of a second consecutive bowl bid. The Bears finish out with Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Texas. But which team will win this game? It all comes down to turnovers. Simply put, if Missouri takes care of the ball, it will overcome Baylor. The Tigers are the more talented squad, but they have fallen victim to the occasional struggles of first year quarterback James Franklin. Franklin is an immense talent and he has been a major factor in the team's four victories, but he has also experienced his share of ball security woes this season.
Stanford Cardinal vs Oregon State Beavers (+21): Stanford nearly saw its amazing against the spread run come to an end last weekend against USC, but the Cardinal's eight point, three overtime win assured another cover. The narrow escape also preserved Stanford's perfect record and its shot at a potential BCS National Championship appearance. With LSU and Alabama squaring off in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, No. 4 Stanford and No. 3 Oklahoma State have the most to gain this weekend. The Cowboys, which take on No. 14 Kansas State at home, face the bigger challenge, but both teams should cruise to easy wins. With all that is at stake, expect the Cardinal to take the Beavers to the woodshed, earning another win and cover.
