College Football Lines Week 10: The number of undefeated college football teams is down to five, after Michigan State and Missouri both fell last week. And that number will decrease by at least one this college football weekend, as two unbeatens, Texas Christian and Utah, hook up Saturday in Salt Lake City in a Mountain West Conference bout (3:30 ET, CBSC).
Saturday's action begins in the ACC, when 5-3 Miami, coming off a loss at Virginia and possibly minus QB Jacory Harris, hosts 6-2 Maryland (Noon, ESPNU); NC State, 6-2 overall this season and 3-1 in conference play, visits 4-4 Clemson (Noon); and a little later Florida State, which leads the Atlantic Division, hosts 5-3 North Carolina (3:30 PM), ABC/ESPN).
In the Big Ten 7-1 Wisconsin, which had last weekend off, visits 4-4 Purdue (Noon, BTN); and two 5-3 teams meet when Michigan hosts Illinois (Noon, ESPN). The Badgers are giving the Boilers 20 points on the Sportsbook.com college football betting board, while the Wolverines are favored by -3 over Illinois.
In the Big 12 the Baylor Bears, who lead the South Division, visit 7-1 Oklahoma State (12:30 PM, FSN); and Nebraska, the co-leaders of the North Division, visits 5-4 Iowa State (3:30 PM, ABC/ESPN). As of Friday morning Sportsbook.com is lining Baylor at +8 1/2 vs. the Cowboys, and the Huskers at -18 over the Cyclones.
Of national championship importance; BCS No. 4 Boise State is -21 at home over WAC-leading and 7-2 Hawaii (3:30 PM, ESPNU); and new No. 1 Oregon, coming off a big win at USC, is a 35-point home favorite over 3-5 Washington (3:30 PM, ABC/ESPN).
In a game of do-or-die as far as BCS title game berths goes, 7-1 Alabama is a 6 1/2-road favorite at 7-1 LSU (3:30 PM, CBS). Also in the SEC 6-2 South Carolina is a 4 1/2-point home favorite over 6-2 Arkansas (7 PM, ESPN).
Back out in the Pac-10 Stanford and Arizona, who both trail conference-leading Oregon by one game, meet down on The Farm (8 E, ABC/ESPN). Sportsbook.com is listing the Cardinal at -9 1/2 over the Wildcats.
And in the game mentioned at the top, TCU, No. 3 in the BCS standings, is giving No. 5 Utah 5 points.
Ranked teams, on the whole, made money last week, going 13-2 straight up vs. unranked opponents and 10-5 vs. the Sportsbook.com pointspreads. On the season, ranked teams are now 130-18 SU vs. unranked opponents, 76-61-3 vs. ATS. Also, in games involving two ranked teams this season, the higher-ranked outfits are 19-11 SU and 16-14 ATS.
