Sole possession of first place in the SEC West is on the line today, but even more than that, the much coveted spot atopLSU vs Alabama Spread 2011 CFB Predictions Week 10 the BCS standings is up for grabs. Both teams, as of right now, still control their own destiny, but everything could change for the loser of this evening's contest.

Identifying a loser in this situation is difficult enough, but with a 4.5 point spread involved, well, it gets considerably harder. The lean has to go to Alabama on both fronts, though. Fortunately for Coach Saban and his Crimson Tide, they catch LSU within the confines of their own stadium, a place where most visitors find it difficult to lace up their own shoes, yet alone win a football game.

One need only point to Alabama's record at home this season to find proof of Bryant-Denny's lack of guest appeal. Five teams, including No. 7 Arkansas, have ventured their way to Tuscaloosa and not a one of them got within 23 points of the Crimson Tide. In fact, only one of them, the aforementioned Razorbacks, crested the seven point mark.

On the season Alabama is giving up a ridiculous 180.5 yards and 6.9 points per game, both of which rank first in the FBS. Granted, those number have come against some of the less intimidating SEC teams (Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Ole Miss) and offensively challenged non-conference squads like Penn State and Kent State, but they still make a pretty big statement.

LSU, which is giving up 251.4 yards and 11.5 points per game, has faced a more difficult slate, but not by much. The two teams have shared common opponents in Florida and Tennessee, but outside of league play the Tigers have been challenged by Oregon and West Virginia. They gave up a total of 48 points in those two games, neither of which took place in Death Valley, but they scored 87 to garner two relatively easy wins.

The Tigers have seen and been through enough to avoid an early puke job in tonight's game, but over the course of four quarters Alabama will simply wear them out both offensively and defensively. This is a 12 round fight and the Tide are masters at working the body. In other words, the early damage will show up late. Alabama 24, LSU 13.
