Arkansas at South Carolina 2010 College Football Picks

by Reno Gold on Saturday, November 6th, 2010

Arkansas at South Carolina 2010 College Football Picks: There should be plenty of fireworks when No. 18 Arkansas travels to play South Carolina at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia (7 pm ET, ESPN-HD). If the Gamecocks can pull off a win here, they will clinch at least a share of the SEC Eastern Division before playing Florida in a showdown next week. Arkansas meanwhile, has a chance to improve its position in the bowl selection process. If the Hogs win out, they could be an attractive selection for a BCS Bowl.

Arkansas at South Carolina 2010 College Football PicksSportsbook.com lists South Carolina as a 4-chalk favorite in this one with a 59 total. Hogs backers are getting +160 moneyline odds as the underdog while South Carolina is giving -180.

This game should be one of the best to watch this year because these are two good offenses, led by experienced quarterbacks and guided by two of the best offensive minds in coaches, Steve Spurier of South Carolina and Bobby Petrino at Arkansas.

Leading the Arkansas offense on the field is quarterback Ryan Mallett, who leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the NCAA with 306.1 passing yards per game. His SEC-leading total of 67 completions of 15 yards or more is third in the nation, while his 24 completions of 25-plus yards are tied for second in the conference and 11th in the country. Joe Adams leads the SEC and ranks fourth in the nation with his 18.1 yards-per-catch average. Tight end D.J. Williams is the NCAA’s active leader in career receptions by a tight end (130) and receiving yards by a tight end (1,594).

South Carolina has a pretty good quarterback on its own in junior Stephen Garcia who is second in the SEC and fifth in the nation with a pass efficiency rating of 167.96. Garcia has plenty of weapons too. Alshon Jeffery leads the SEC and is fifth in the nation in receiving yards per game, averaging 116.9 yards per contest. He is also second in the league with 6.5 catches per game. Freshman running back Marcus Lattimore has topped the 150-yard mark twice this season, rushing for 182 yards vs. Georgia and 184 vs. Tennessee.

Reno Gold's Pick: I can't believe the total is below 70 points for this game. I see an all out shootout in this game. These two teams could hit the posted 59 by halftime. I'm taking the OVER (59) again.
