Toledo at Northern Illinois 2010 College Football Picks

Toledo at Northern Illinois 2010 College Football PicksToledo at Northern Illinois 2010 College Football Picks: Both the Toledo Rockets (6-3) and Northern Illinois Huskies (7-2) are battling for the Mid-American Conference West Division title, knotted atop the standings with 5-0 league records. Tuesday night (7 PM ET, ESPN2) the Huskies host the Rockets in a game that will probably produce the division champion. Both Toledo and NIU have two games left with Mid-American teams but will be heavy favorites in each.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGglobal.com list the home team Huskies as 11-chalk favorites versus the Rockets, and have posted the betting total at 50 1/2 points. Toledo backers are getting +350 odds on the SBG Global moneyline while NIU is giving -450.

The Huskies enter Tuesday's game versus Toledo looking to extend their winning streak to seven games. NIU's current six-game winning streak started Sept. 25 with a win at Minnesota and has continued with Mid-American Conference victories over Akron, Temple, Buffalo, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.

In their eight games, lined by SBG Global, NIU covered the betting spread in six of them with one loss and a push. Of the eight games played by NIU, the betting total (over/under) split 4-4.

Of the Rockets three losses, two of them were to ranked schools, Arizona of the Pac-10 and Boise State of the WAC. Since their 57-14 loss to then No. 3 Boise State on Oct. 9, the Rockets have won three straight versus league foe Kent State, Ball State and Eastern Michigan. Toledo also has a win, a 31-20 result, over Purdue of the BIG TEN. Of their nine games lined at SBG Global, five of them went over the posted total while four fell under.

Reno Gold's Pick: The Huskies are one team that knows how to take advantage of their home field when playing against Mid-American competition. They have averaged a winning margin of 23.6 points in three games against Temple, Buffalo and Central Michigan. In all four games played at home, the Huskies winning margin averaged 19.5 points per game. While Toledo is a cut above most Mid-American teams, they have struggled at home and on the road against quality competition. Of course the road win at Purdue was nice but the Boilermakers have struggled this year to compete with anybody. I look for the Huskies to win tonight's game by two touchdowns and will cover as a -11 favorite at home.
