Bradford and Harrell odds favorites in tight Heisman Trophy race: Three weeks ago, the Texas Longhorns were the darlings of the college football scene after defeating Oklahoma and Missouri in back to back weeks and quarterback Colt McCoy had become the favorite to win the 2008 Heisman Trophy. Of course the phrase, 'Heisman Trophy favorite' is something tossed around like a hot potato from week to week. Sort of like the weather; wait a few minutes and it will change. If you haven't noticed, the Heisman race is heating up among a group of quarterbacks including last years winner, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
Right now, entering week 12 of the season, Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell and Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford are deadlocked at 2/1 odds according to oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog(Bodoglife.com) . McCoy, the favorite after week nine, has dropped slightly to 3/1.
A month ago Tebow's chances were slim at 12/1 but has since led his team to the SEC Championship game therefore increasing his stock. Today, Tebow is closing the gap at 9/2 odds. If the Florida quarterback can put up big numbers and lead the Gators to the BCS championship game, his chances at a Heisman repeat would be pretty good.
Both Harrell and Bradford are idle until Texas Tech and Oklahoma clash in a much anticipated game Nov. 22 up in Norman. The loser of that game could possibly if not probably drop from the Heisman picture. Meanwhile, Tebow has a big game with South Carolina in Gainesville this week that is nationally televised on CBS while McCoy leads the Longhorns against Kansas in Lawrence.
The only non-quarterback in the Heisman mix is Texas Tech sophomore receiver Michael Crabtree at 10/1 odds.
