College Football Odds Week 11: With just a few short weeks left in the 2009 college football season, the importance of the remaining games has reached critical mass for some teams. One such squad is No. 4 TCU, which is attempting to become this year's BCS Buster. The Horned Frogs' season could come down to this Saturday's meeting with No. 16 Utah, a contest Head Coach Gary Patterson has, no doubt, had circled since November 6th, 2008. Utah Utes vs TCU Horned Frogs (-19.5): TCU has steam rolled every opponent this year, winning by an average of 26.2 points
in route to its 9-0 record (6-3 against the spread). They did much the same last year, save a visit to Oklahoma and a November meeting with the Utes in Salt Lake City. The Horned Frogs fell 10-13 to Utah, despite having more first downs (20 to 17), more third down conversions (8 to 4), and more total yards (416 to 275). However, TCU also had 11 penalties and two turnovers, which put the Utes in position to score the go ahead touchdown with just 00:48 left in the game. Kyle Whittingham's squad would go on to finish 13-0 after pasting Alabama 31-17 in the Sugar Bowl. TCU wrapped up the year at 11-2, concluding their stellar campaign with 17-16 win over Boise State in the Poinsettia Bowl.
One would figure by the way these two teams finished up last season, coupled with the way they have played this year, that this game would be on national television. Regardless, the Mountain West will be decided on Saturday when they clash at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs have the top spot with a 5-0 conference record, but the Utes are also 5-0 in conference play and poised to grab the title should TCU fall flat. But there is more at stake for the Horned Frogs. If they win, it is almost certain they will finish out the regular season undefeated with Wyoming and New Mexico coming up after Utah. If they can do that, then the Horned Frogs will be in line for a BCS Bowl, much like Utah was last year.
Series Notes: TCU is 1-5 in its last six meetings with Utah; however, the Horned Frogs are 9-1 against the spread and 10-0 straight up in their last 10 games as a home favorite. The last team to beat TCU in Fort Worth? Utah by a score of 27-20 in October of 2007. The Horned Frogs are 4-0 at home this season; the Utes are 3-1 on the road, their only loss coming at Oregon in week three (24-31).
