Florida State (6-3) drew a tremendous amount of off-season attention as many expected Jimbo Fisher's squad to vault
back into national championship contention for the first time in over a decade. The Seminoles looked the part early on against cupcakes Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern, but their fast start turned disastrous after a 23-13 home loss to Oklahoma.
FSU dropped its next two games, road affairs against conference foes Clemson and Wake Forest, following the Sooners setback. The three game skid certainly eliminated the 'Noles from BCS contention and it all but buried their hopes of an ACC crown.
Fisher's crew has bounced backed in a big way, though, and could find their way into a prestigious bowl should they win out (Miami, Virginia, at Florida). The Seminoles have won four straight coming into tomorrow's game, but more than just winning, they destoyed league foes Duke, Maryland, NC State, and Boston College by an average of 28.8 points per contest.
The 5-4 Hurricanes, which have lost four of their last six against Florida State, are not riding the same kind of momentum as the Seminoles into this game, but Al Golden's squad has played well of late. Miami has won three of its last four games, beating North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Duke by an average of 19.3 points per game.
Tomorrow marks the Hurricanes fourth road outing of the season. Miami lost its first two away games, falling 32-24 at Maryland to open the season and 38-35 in a week six clash with Coastal Division leader Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The 'Canes did take their last road game, beating the Tar Heels 30-24 in Chapel Hill thanks to a 267 yard, three touchdown showing from quarterback Jacory Harris.
Harris will need a similar effort tomorrow if the Canes are to upset FSU. If Harris is off at all, Miami's offense will have difficulty scoring against FSU's stingy defense (268 yards, 15.8 points per game allowed).
