Nebraska vs Penn State Spread 2011 College Football Picks: The ever growing scandal in Happy Valley has put this weekend's meeting between Nebraska and Penn State in the background; however, the two teams will take the field regardless, and the outcome could well determine who wins the Big Ten's Legends and Leaders Divisions. Kickoff in tomorrow's game is scheduled for 12:00pm ET at Beaver Stadium; the rivalry clash will be broadcast live on ESPN. College football odds makers have the visiting Huskers listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite. Nebraska seemingly had the Big Ten Legends Division in the palm of its hand following an October 29th
smashing of Michigan State at Memorial Stadium. The Huskers 24-3 win over the Spartans improved the team to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in league play as it prepared for a stretch run that included meetings with Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan, and Iowa.
Nebraska experienced a major and unexpected letdown last weekend, though, falling 28-25 at home to the Wildcats. Northwestern, which led the game wire-to-wire, amassed 468 yards and 25 first downs in the stunning upset as backup quarterback Kain Colter threw for 115 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 57 yards and two scores.
While the Wildcats have been solid on offense all season long, the performance was nothing short of shocking considering Nebraska's defense held Michigan State to 12 first downs and 187 total yards the weekend prior.
Nevertheless, a rebound could be in order for the Black Shirts tomorrow afternoon given the offensive struggles of the Nittany Lions (8-1 overall, 5-0 conference). Penn State, which could go a long way towards wrapping up the Leaders Division title with a win over the Huskers, ranks 100th in the FBS in scoring with a 21.8 point per game average.
In fact, the Nittany Lions, who will be coached by longtime staff member Tom Bradley in the wake of Joe Paterno's firing, have averaged 15.5 points per game in league play outside of their 34 point effort against the aforementioned Wildcats.
Fortunately for Penn State, its defense is almost unparalleled as it ranks behind only Alabama and LSU in terms of points per game allowed.
Nebraska's offense struggled in its only road outing against a truly formidable defense (Wisconsin), posting 17 points, 335 yards, and three interceptions. That showing raises questions about how Taylor Martinez and company might perform against the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium. If Penn State can keep stay focused amid the sickening scandal that has engulfed the football program, it could pull off the upset against the Huskers.
College Football Picks Betting Trend: Nebraska is 5-1 straight up and 4-2 against the spread playing as an away team with a total between 41.5 and 44.
