by Reno Gold on Saturday, November 14th, 2009

Tennessee at Ole Miss College Football Picks: Just when Tennessee appeared to have its football program heading in the right direction, it is rocked by an off-field event that potentially could affect play on the field due to the distraction. Three Volunteer freshmen football players were allegedly engaged in an armed robbery in the early morning hours on Thursday at a gas station near the Tennessee campus. Included in the arrest is prized wide-receiver NuKeese Richardson. Also allegedly involved were safety Janzen Jackson and defensive back Mike Edwards.

Tennessee vs. Ole Miss College Football PicksOn Saturday Tennessee travels to play Ole Miss in the always difficult venue of Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford. Prior to the arrest of the three Tennessee players, Ole Miss was favored for this game by a 3 1/2-chalk by college football picks oddsmakers at BetUS.com. Since Thursday, the betting line has shifted by two points currently favoring Ole Miss on the BetUS board by -5 1/2 with a 48 total. Tennessee backers are getting +190 odds on the BetUS moneyline while Ole Miss is giving -230.

Today's game is considered a must win for both the Vols and Rebels. At 2-3 in SEC play, neither school is a player in the league championship picture but are posturing for better position in the post-season bowl selection order.

Tennessee has picked up some momentum by winning two straight games, South Carolina and Memphis, since their hard fought loss to Alabama in Week 8. The Rebels slipped in week 10 after losing to Auburn 20-33 last week as a 6-chalk favorite. The 53 points scored went OVER the posted 50 total.

Jonathan Crompton threw for five touchdowns and rushed for another in Week 10, leading Tennessee to a 56-28 win over Memphis. Tennessee covered the 25-point spread, and the 84 points sailed OVER the posted total of 53. Crompton completed 21-of-27 for 330 yards, and Denarius Moore had two TD catches in that victory.

College football picks: Ole Miss is desperate for a quality win but will have trouble with Tennessee's solid defense. Look for Tennessee to cover the 5 1/2-chalk. CBS will provide national television coverage with an early Noon ET kickoff.
