Never has the University of Oregon football team (8-1) played a game with so much at stake both as a team, ranked No. 2 in the current BCS poll, and individually with senior quarterback Dennis Dixon in hot pursuit of the Heisman Trophy. Thursday night, the Ducks will continue their magical season against the Arizona Wildcats (4-6) at Arizona Stadium in Tucson with kickoff set for 9:00 p.m. ET. The Ducks lead the all-time series, 19-13.
While oddsmakers at online sports wagering giant Bodog (Bodoglife.com) have Oregon favored by 11 ½-points, players and fans alike can’t take anything for granted knowing the Wildcats came into Autzen Stadium last year in Eugene and stole one taking a 37-10 victory and ending Oregon’s seven game winning streak.
This game has all the makings of a trap for Oregon, a team coming off back-to-back emotional wins over Cal and Southern Cal, being ranked No. 2 in the BCS poll as well as having the leading Heisman Trophy candidate running its offense.
There is also plenty of incentive for the Wildcats, a team in need of two victories over Oregon and Arizona State that would allow the team to become bowl eligible for the first time under head coach Mike Stoops.
Oregon's Dennis Dixon led the way with four touchdown passes in Week 10's 35-23 win over Arizona State, covering the 7.5-point home spread. The 58 points scored were UNDER the posted total of 61.
Dixon was 13-for-22 for 189 yards on the day, while Jonathan Stewart had 21 carries for 99 yards and a major, while also catching a touchdown pass for the Ducks.
Despite giving up 10 points in the fourth quarter in Week 10 as the Wildcats defeated the UCLA Bruins 34-27. The Wildcats won the game as a pik'em, while the combined 61 points sailed OVER the posted total of 49.5.
Wildcats quarterback Willie Tuitama threw for 339 yards, and completed 21-of-35 passes with three touchdowns.
