2010 College Football Predictions – Week 12

by Reno Gold on Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

2010 College Football Predictions – Week 12: Week 12 of the 2010 college football season will get its real start Friday night when No. 4(BCS) Boise State hosts Fresno State at Broncos Stadium in Boise, Idaho (9:30 pm ET, ESPN).

The Broncos are favored  over the Bulldogs by -30 1/2 points by most sportsbooks with a combined total(over/under) of 65 1/2 points. The Broncos, who are undefeated at 9-0 SU have been a good bet for backers ATS this season by covering the point-spread 7-of-9 times. The often inflated total has exceeded the posted number 5-of-9 times in games Boise State played. Fresno State is fully capable of putting up two or three touchdowns on just about anybody, including the Broncos. The problem with Fresno, they give up plenty of points. It's risky picking against BSU on the – Blue – but I look for the Dogs to cover +30 1/2 and the total to fly OVER the posted 65 1/2.

No. 25 Florida State and Maryland control their own destiny, win out and play in the ACC Championship game in December. The Seminoles travel to College Park on Saturday lined as 4-chalk road favorites versus the Terps with a 51 1/2 total. The Terps are 3-1 SU at home and 2-1 ATS while going 7-3 SU and 6-3 ATS in lined games. FSU is 7-3 SU overall, but is 2-2 both SU and ATS on the road. I predict Maryland covers the point-spread as a +4 home underdog.

No. 24 Miami has a slight chance , though remote, to be playing in the ACC Championship game but two things need to happen. They must defeat No. 16 Virginia Tech at home on Saturday and then hope the Hokies lose their final game next week versus Virginia in Blacksburg in their season finale.  Miami quarterback Jacory Harris is expected to return to the starting lineup after suffering a concussion two weeks ago. I like the Hurricanes lined as a +2 1/2 chalk home underdog to win this game.

There are two monster games in the BIG TEN on Saturday with No. 7 Wisconsin travelling to play Michigan at Ann Arbor and No. 20 Iowa hosting No. 9 Ohio State. While Iowa has played itself out of the conference championship picture, they hope to play spoiler. The Hawkeyes are +3 home dogs in this one. The Badgers seem to be hitting on all cylinders as they roll into the Michigan's Big House chalked as -5 road favs. I look for Iowa to cover the point spread +3 while Wisconsin has little trouble beating the Wolverines on the road and covering -5.

The SEC East and West Division races are settled but there is still plenty to play for. No. 5 LSU, the highest ranked one loss team in the BCS hosts Ole Miss at Death Valley while No. 13 Arkansas travels to Starkville to play No. 21 Mississippi State. The Tigers are lined as -16 point favorites over the Rebel Black Bears while the Hogs are giving -3 to the Dogs. LSU and Arkansas will win and cover these games before butting heads in Little Rock Thanksgiving weekend.

Out in the PAC-10, No. 6 Stanford hope to keep their Rose Bowl hopes alive when they travel to play their annual rivalry game with unranked Cal. The Cardinal is favored by a touchdown (-7) in this one with a 51 1/2 total. The Golden Bears should come into the game with plenty of confidence after nearly defeating No. 1 Oregon on Saturday. Cal needs one more win to reach the minimum number to become bowl qualified so they have plenty at stake too. Will Cal have anything left in its tank after last weeks emotional loss? We're going with Cal as a +7 home dog.
