2011 BCS Championship Odds & Predictions – Week 12: One can assume, after Oregon's near loss to Cal last Saturday, Arizona coach Mike Stoops will view hours of film trying to figure out how his Wildcats can defense the No. 1 (BCS) Ducks on November 26 when the teams play in Eugene. The Bears had Oregon on the ropes, but missed the second attempt at a chip-shot field goal after the first successful attempt was negated by an illegial movement penalty. Oregon went on to win the game by two points, to stay undefeated at 10-0. With two games left on their 2010 schedule, SPORTSBOOK.com lists the Ducks as the odds favorite (-125), to win the 2011 BCS Championship.
No. 2 Auburn, at 11-0, has one game remaining, an Iron Bowl meeting with arch-rival Alabama, also a Friday game Nov. 26. The Tigers odds are second best on the SPORTSBOOK.com BCS Board at +175 odds.
Oddsmakers have installed No. 4 Boise State with third best BCS odds at +250 and No. 3 TCU, fourth at +400. It's speculated, the Broncos will pass TCU in the BCS standings by seasons end, based on their remaining strength of schedule. Of course that's providing BSU wins-out. The Bronco's play unranked Fresno State in Boise this Friday, Nov. 19, then end their season at No. 18 Nevada, Nov. 26. TCU has one game remaining with New Mexico.
The odds increase is significant after the top four listings with LSU's BCS championship odds at +1800. The Tigers, the highest ranked one-loss team. At 9-1, LSU must play a home date with rival Ole Miss before ending their season on the road at Arkansas. The Tigers will probably be slight underdogs against the Razorbacks.
Reno Gold's 2011 BCS Prediction: I honestly believe Boise State is the best college football team in America and if my hunch plays out, the Broncos will win the 2011 BCS Championship trophy. For that to happen this scenario must take place. The Broncos will jump over TCU sometime in the next two weeks after they win out over Fresno State and Nevada. Their final two games will give BSU enough schedule strength to overtake the Frogs into the No. 3 BCS slot. Either Oregon or Auburn must lose one of their final two games and fall out of the BCS sweepstakes. Auburn's trip to play No. 11 Alabama the day after Thanksgiving will be daunting. I predict Bama spoils Auburn's party, moving Boise State into the championship game. Boise State's overall balance will be enough to propel them over Oregon for the third straight year. The only difference; this time it's for the BCS Championship.
