The No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1) got a reprieve in their BCS Championship hopes Thursday night when the No. 2 Oregon Ducks were shot down in the Arizona desert. The Buckeyes received the same fate last week to Illinois but in front of the home crowd at Ohio Stadium. That loss dropped the Buckeyes all the way to seventh in what appeared to be a fatal descent. If there is any hope of climbing back on top, though dim, it must start when they travel to play arch-rival Michigan (8-3) in the Big House at Noon ET Saturday.Â
Ohio State will need help from outside sources in order to remove their title chances from life support. Any one-loss team still in the BCS title chase is currently ranked ahead of the Buckeyes. The list is long but not insurmountable.
The Buckeyes need for any of these mentioned to lose starting with top-ranked LSU followed by Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and West Virginia. Of that group only Kansas remains undefeated but if they lose they too would drop below the Buckeyes providing they beat Michigan.Â
Michigan leads the all-time series with Ohio State by a 57-40-6 count. Michigan leads 30-18-4 in games played in Ann Arbor.
