Ohio State vs Iowa 2010 College Football Picks, 2010 College Football Odds & 2010 College Football Predictions: No. 9 Ohio State has two major hurdles to clear in order to even have a shot at the Big Ten title and the first of those comes tomorrow in Iowa City. The 20th ranked Hawkeyes await the Buckeyes for a 3:30pm ET kickoff this Saturday at Kinnick Stadium; the game will be broadcast live on ABC. 2010 College Football Picks, Odds & Predictions at BetUS.com have Ohio State listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite and the game total set at 48.5.
Ohio State, which is presently in a three way tie with Michigan State and Wisconsin for first place in
the Big Ten standings, comes into tomorrow's game riding a three game win streak. Since falling to the seventh ranked Badgers on October 16th, the Buckeyes have mowed through Purdue, Minnesota, and Penn State, winning by an average of 35 points per game.
Quarterback Terrelle Pryor's play was instrumental in the loss at Wisconsin (14-0f-28, 156 yards, one interception), but it has also been key to the Buckeyes subsequent recovery. Pryor has thrown for 631 yards and seven touchdowns (192.3 passer rating) in Ohio State's last three games and he rushed for 104 yards and a score on 13 attempts in the wins over the Gophers and Nittany Lions.
Iowa came into the year with Big Ten title expectations, but the Hawkeyes up and down season has them sitting fourth in the conference standings (7-3 overall, 4-2 conference). Kirk Ferentz' squad experienced another unexpected low last weekend, falling 21-17 at Northwestern after giving up 419 yards and 26 first downs to the Wildcats.
The Hawkeyes defense, which ranks 70th in the FBS against the pass (220 pass yards per game allowed), saw Northwestern's Dan Persa complete 32-of-43 passes for 318 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Persa also rushed for 50 yards and one score in the upset.
Iowa's Ricky Stanzi threw for 270 yards, two touchdowns, and one pick in the loss, but the offense, which is averaging 406 yards per game on the season, produced just 371 total yards. The Hawkeyes also converted a miserable 2-of-14 on third down (14 percent), a tally 32 percent worse than its season average in the key situation.
The Buckeyes have experienced just on hiccup in the last 10 meetings of this rivalry series. Ohio State lost 33-7 at Kinnick Stadium in 2004, but they beat the Hawkeyes by an average of 23 points per game in 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2006 wins at the facility.
College Football Predictions Betting Trend: Ohio State is 9-1 straight up in its last 10 games as a road favorite with a total between 47.5 and 51.
