College Football Picks for Thanksgiving Week 13

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Today on Thanksgiving day there is a very good College Football Pac-10 battle between USC and Arizona State on tap this evening.Despite being ranked No. 11 and 6 respectively, both the Trojans and the Sun Devils will consider their seasons disappointing. Both were ranked in the upper echelon of the BCS standings but USC lost to Stanford and both teams lost to Oregon.

Those untimely losses, however, will be in the rearview Thanksgiving night as a potential berth in the Rose Bowl is up for grabs, which is the next best thing for the two Pac-10 schools besides the national title.

USC is headed to Tempe, Arizona for this matchup, SportsBetting.com has the Trojans favored by a field goal and they are seeing 75% of the action.

Looking ahead to NCAA action after Thursday night, we have LSU. People often say the third times a charm, but in the case of the Tigers you could say it’s second time lucky.

In Week 6, LSU were the top team in the nation, but an untimely loss to Kentucky saw Ohio State overtake them just in time for the release of the first BCS standings of the year.

LSU bided its time and worked its way back up and overtook the Ohio State again when the Buckeyes suffered an untimely loss to Illinois.

Going into its Friday matchup with Arkansas, they can move one step further into cementing a spot in the BCS title game.

The last time the two met, LSU covered a 1½-point spread in a 31-26 victory but this time around the oddsmakers at SportsBetting.com have the line set a bit steeper with the Tigers listed at -13.

LSU is getting 80% of the action and is listed at 5-4 to take the national title.

NCAA football analysts always say that if you’re going to lose, you might as well do it early. LSU (see above) lost early and was able to work its way back up to the No. 1 spot in the BCS and West Virginia is in a similar position.

Currently the BCS’ No. 3 team, the Mountaineers had to claw back from what seemed at the time like a devastating 21-13 loss to South Florida in late September—when WVU was ranked No. 5 in the AP and listed as a 7-point chalk.

UConn is one of college football’s surprise teams of 2007 currently ranked 20 in the BCS standings.

Oddsmakers are favoring the Mountaineers in this one by a large margin listing West Virginia at -17.

Speaking of surprise teams, two teams that came seemingly out of nowhere this season are the Kansas Jayhawks and the Missouri Tigers.

Currently the BCS’ No. 4 and No. 2 teams respectively, Missouri heads to Arrowhead to face Kansas in a game that will affect not only the Big 12 standings, but the BCS title picture as well.

Head coach Mark Mangino and his team are currently undefeated and seem like they are on the fast track to Louisiana for the BCS national championship game.

After losing to Oklahoma in mid October head coach Gary Pinkel and the Tigers were able to climb back up the BCS staircase rattling off 5 straight SU wins (3-2 ATS) and would like to beat Kansas if for nothing else than to stick it to its Big 12 North rival.

Football bettors will definitely be keeping a close eye on this one because of all the implications. SportsBetting.com has Kansas listed as a slight fav at -2 and they are receiving 60% of the betting action.

Enjoy the turkey, the football and the turkey sandwiches after.
