Texas appeared to have things back in order after back to back October losses to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State,
recording decisive wins over Kansas and Texas Tech, but appearances can, indeed, be deceiving. The Longhorns ride another two game losing skid into this week's game after falling 17-5 at Missouri two weekends ago and 17-13 to Kansas State on Saturday in Austin.
As evidenced by the score in each of those games, it was Texas' sputtering offense that led to its demise. The Longhorns defense, which ranks 10th in the FBS in yards per game allowed (294.5), yielded 338 yards to the Tigers and 121 yards to the Wildcats. Texas' two quarterback attack failed to take advantage of those low totals as David Ash and Case McCoy combined to complete 31-of-68 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the two setbacks.
If Ash and McCoy post those same type of numbers on Thursday, the Longhorns are probably in for a third consecutive loss. While the Aggies own an inferior 6-5 record, their offense has enough firepower to chip away at Texas' defense given enough opportunity to do so.
Texas A&M, which snapped a three game losing streak on Saturday with a 61-7 thrashing of Kansas, ranks sixth nationally in yards per game (512.4) and 10th in scoring (40.9). While the Aggies have a number of offensive weapons, quarterback Ryan Tannehill is the engine behind the team's impressive totals.
Tannehill, who threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns in last week's win over the Jayhawks, has thrown for 3191 yards, 26 touchdowns, and an average of 290.1 yards per game. He may not produce those kind of numbers against Texas, he certainly did not in last year's meeting between the two rivals; however, he did enough to guide the Aggies to a 24-17 win, bringing the series record to a still lopsided 68-36-4 in favor of the Longhorns.
College Football Picks Betting Trend: Texas is 1-4 straight up and 2-3 against the spread in its last five games as a road dog with a total between 51.5 and 54 (Under 5-0 in those games).
