Texas A&M at Texas 2010 College Football Predictions

by Reno Gold on Thursday, November 25th, 2010

Week-13 of the 2010 College Football Season will lead off on Thanksgiving Day at Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, with one of the most traditional rivalries on the college football landscape, that between the Texas Longhorns and No. 17(BCS) Texas A&M Aggies. This years version will not have the BIG 12 Championship or BCS implications as in recent years, but it's still one of the most anticipated games of the year; especially in the Lone Star State. Texas A&M is listed as a 3 1/2-chalk favorite at Sportsbook.com and across the board at most offshore sportsbooks. The betting (over/under) total for this game opened at 47 1/2 points.

Texas A&M at Texas 2010 College Football PredictionsSince A&M coach Mike Sherman replaced Jerrod Johnson as starting quarterback with Ryan Tannehill following the teams home loss to Missouri back on Oct. 16, the Aggies have won five games in a row, including victories over Oklahoma and Nebraska. The Aggies also covered the betting spread (ATS) for backers in all of those five. The Aggies had failed to cover ATS in the previous four games prior to Tanneyhill's advancement. Overall, the Aggies are 6-4 ATS.

Texas needs a win to get bowl qualified, something that has Longhorn nation in a tither after being such a big player on the BCS scene in recent years. With a loss, the Horns will drop to 5-7 and fall out of the 2010 BIG 12 Bowl lineup. Backers were victimized this season by Texas being over-lined by oddsmakers, who based their game odds on previous history. Bettors are now wiser and oddmakers have adjusted, rightly favoring the Aggies in this one.

The Longhorns caught a break in the schedule last week and defeated unheralded Florida Atlantic 51-17 and covering the -21 1/2 chalk. The Aggies, defeated Nebraska last week as a 2 1/2 point home underdog.

Reno Gold's pick: This game is difficult to predict as rankings and records seldom come into play. However; this time around the Aggies truly have the best team. I'm putting my money on A&M to win and cover the 3 1/2 chalk.
