The Mountaineers are presently third in the league standings with a 7-3 overall record and 3-2 conference mark, but they would pull even with the Panthers with a win tomorrow. Pittsburgh, which has won four of its last five game to rebound from its 2-3 start, owns the top spot in the Big East; however, it's lead is tenuous at best with second place Connecticut just a game back.
The Huskies, which close out their schedule with games against Cincinnati and South Florida, will, no doubt, take a keen interest in the Backyard Brawl. Randy Edsall's squad owns wins over both the Mountaineers and Panthers and would move into first place with a West Virginia win and a victory of their own against the Bearcast on Saturday.
This series has been a back and forth affair in recent seasons, but the Mountaineers have won three of their last five, including a 19-16 victory last year in Morgantown. Pittsburgh, though, has been tough at home this season, losing only to Miami way back in week four. The Panthers 2-0 in Big East play at Heinz Field this year where they beat Rutgers 41-21 and Louisville 20-3.
