LSU at Arkansas 2010 College Football Picks

by Reno Gold on Saturday, November 27th, 2010

LSU vs. Arkansas 2010 College Football Picks: The No. 12 (BCS) Arkansas Razorbacks will host No. 5 LSU today (3:30 pm ET, CBS) at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Ark., in what will probably be a battle for an at-large bid to a BCS bowl.

LSU at Arkansas 2010 College Football PicksBodog.com lists the Razorbacks as 3 1/2-chalk favorites in this game with a posted 55 total.

The Tigers, at 10-1 overall, are currently alone in second place in the SEC West with a 6-1 SEC mark. The Hogs (9-2) are one game behind in third place with a 5-2 SEC mark. If LSU wins this game they will finish with the second best record in the SEC and be in line for an at-large BCS bowl bid. If the Hogs pull out the victory today, they would be considered the No. 2 overall team in the conference and be in line for an at-large BCS bid. Of course all that hangs on what happens in next week's SEC Championship Game between Auburn and South Carolina.

LSU is coming off its best offensive performance of the year in their 43-36 home victory over Ole Miss at Death Valley. In spite of the win, LSU failed to cover ATS the 14 1/2-chalk set by sportsbooks. In the game, the 470 yards gained was a season best.

Quarterback Jordan Jefferson is leading LSU's offensive unit that is averaging 27.3 points and 336.1 total yards per game. Against Ole Miss Jefferson threw for a career-high 254 yards and one touchdown and added 45 rushing yards and another score in the teams win.

The Tigers continue to lead the SEC in total defense (286.9) and pass defense (151.8) and they are No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (16.5). LB Kelvin Sheppard leads the Tigers with 98 tackles. Drake Nevis is third on the team with 53 tackles, and ranks among the SEC leaders tackles for losses (12.5) and fifth in sacks (6.0).

Ryan Mallett leads the SEC and ranks fifth in the NCAA with 297.5 passing yards per game. His SEC-leading total of 87 completions of 15 yards or more ranks third in the nation and his 31 completions of 25- plus yards are tied for second in the conference and fifth in the country. Knile Davis is the 10th player in Arkansas history to post a 1,000-yard rushing season. He leads the team this year with 1,031 yards. His 93.7 rushing yards per game rank third in the SEC. Jarius Wright ranks third in the SEC and eighth in the NCAA with his 19.1 yards-per-reception average this season. Joe Adams ranks sixth in the conference and 25th in the nation with his 16.7 yards-per-reception average.

Arkansas won a hard-fought road battle at Mississippi State last week where Hogs running back Knile Davis scored a touchdown in OT, followed by a defensive stand to preserve a 38-31 victory. Arkansas covered in that game as a 3-point favorite, while the 69 combined points took the game OVER the total.

Reno Gold's pick: Today's game pitts the SEC's best offenses and defenses. Arkansas really has its offense clicking with the emergence of it running game led with Davis leading the way. I think Arkansas will win today's game SU.
