Charlie Weis Fired at Notre Dame: Sources within the Notre Dame football program have informed Point-Spreads.com that Charlie Weis has been relieved of his duties as Notre Dame head football coach. Upon his hiring five years ago, Weis said that 6-5 wasn't a good enough record at Notre Dame. Weis is correct – after going 6-6 this year, he is gone. These reports will be confired at a mid-afternoon press conference about the firing.

Charlie Weis Fired at Notre DameJack Swarbrick, athletic director at the school, is cutting Weis loose after a disappointing 6-6 season that ended with a 45-38 loss to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday. Weiss, with six years left on his contract will be due a large buyout estimated around $18-million.

Speculation will be kick into high gear as to who will replace Weis as coach of the Fighting Irish. Last week online sportsbook Bodog.com listed betting odds on Weis' replacement, naming Brian Kelly of Cincinnati as the most likely candidate. Other names on this list are Florida's Urban Meyer(17/4), who by the way has said he isn't interested, Stanford's Jim Harbaugh (13/4), Oregon's Chip Kelly (9/2), Kirk Ferentz at Iowa (14/1) and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops (10/1). Also on the list as a longshot is John Gruden (30/1) former NFL head coach at Oakland and most recently of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
