Georgia vs LSU Spread SEC Championship Game 2011

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Georgia vs LSU Spread SEC Championship Game 2011: LSU has, almost certainly, secured a spot in the BCS National Championship Game, but it still has the mere formality of Saturday's SEC Championship meeting with the Georgia Bulldogs. The two rivals are scheduled to clash at the Georgia Dome on December 3rd; kickoff is set for 4:00pm ET on CBS. College football odds makers have the Tigers listed as a -13.5 against the spread favorite while the game total is set at 46 points. Georgia's season got off to a horrific start, suffering back-to-back losses to Boise State and South Carolina, which madeGeorgia vs LSU Spread SEC Championship Game 2011 Head Coach Mark Richt's already hot seat even hotter. The Bulldogs did not let their slow beginning ruin their season, though, and their presence in Saturday's game is proof of such.

Sure, Georgia plays in the SEC's weaker half, but it's current 10 game win streak is both notable and impressive. The Bulldogs have experienced some close calls, letting teams like Tennessee, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt hang around; however, they have also put it on other squads like Mississippi State, Auburn, and Georgia Tech, beating those teams by an average of 22 points per game.

But do the Bulldogs have enough to challenge a seemingly invincible LSU team? Truthfully, probably not.

The 12-0 Tigers are on an almost unparalelled run as only one team has even challenged them. Alabama took LSU to overtime in Tuscaloosa, but still fell 6-9.

Despite a boatload of easy wins, LSU has also proven it can survive an early lull. The Tigers trailed then No. 3 Arkansas 14-0 in the second quarter last weekend in Baton Rouge, but ended up routing the Razorbacks 41-17. Les Miles' troops finished the regular season finale with 26 first downs and 494 total yards and it controlled the clock for 37:09.

Georgia, given the way it has played, is bound to have some confidence entering this weekend's game, but it is difficult to envision the Bulldogs hanging with the Tigers for four quarters. Only one opponent has thus far, and I think we can all agree that Georgia is not in the same class as Alabama.

College Football Picks Betting Trend: LSU is 6-3-1 against the spread and 10-0 straight up in its last 10 games playing as a favorite with a total between 44.5 and 47.
