In what is described as the biggest game in Mizzou football history, the Tigers (10-1) will get a chance to book its ticket to the BCS championship game when it faces Oklahoma (10-2) for the Big 12 championship in San Antonio on Saturday. Oddsmakers at online wagering giant Bodog (Bodoglife.com) currently have the Sooners listed as 3-point favorites versus the Tigers, while the game's total is sitting at 66.
The Tigers will get a chance to avenge their only loss of the season, as the Sooners defeated the Tigers 41-31 on October 13. For Oklahoma to do it again, it will have to contain Mizzou quarterback Chase Daniel, who has played himself into Heisman Trophy contention with his banner season.
The Sooners will also have to contend with Tigers running back Tony Temple, who missed three games this season with a sprained ankle. Temple missed the meeting on October 13, but will be back in the lineup Saturday. Temple rushed for 98 yards on 22 carries in Missouri’s 36-28 win over then-No. 2 Kansas last Saturday, and has five touchdowns in his last five games.
Oklahoma could be without DE Auston English, who is questionable with a hairline fracture in his leg. English had nine tackles and 1.5 sacks in the Sooners’ win against the Tigers earlier this season, so his potential absence is a big blow to any hope of a Sooner cover.
The Sooners will need QB Sam Bradford to match Daniel if they’re going to pull this one out. Bradford has thrown for a NCAA freshman-record 32 touchdowns this season, and looked solid in last week’s 49-17 blowout win over Oklahoma State.
