The win brought Texas' record to 12-0 and capped off a perfect 8-0 run through the conference schedule.
According to McCoy, this game was the goal all along, but the senior passer and his teammates are hopeful it is not the last major highlight in what has been a terrific season.
"We felt like if we could get to this point we would have a chance to accomplish a lot of things," McCoy said. "We have handled our business each week so far this year. It's going to be tough, but we are in the position that we want to be in."
Nebraska did not take the same path as the Longhorns to tomorrow's championship clash, but they arrived nonetheless. The Huskers finished their regular season schedule with a 9-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Big 12 play. Bo Pelini's squad comes into this contest playing its best football of the season, though, as the Cornhuskers have rattled off five straight wins. Nebraska's last loss came on October 24th against Iowa State (7-9), a game in which it turned the ball over eight times.
While Nebraska is a big dog to Texas, Pelini believes the program is headed in the right direction and, perhaps, back to the pre-Bill Callahan glory days.
"I came in here wanting to win football games and compete for championships," Pelini said. "We have a chance to compete for one (tomorrow) night."
Tomorrow evening's game will mark the fifth appearance for each of these teams in the Big 12 Championship. Both squads are 2-2 in their previous four title games and they have split in two head-to-head meetings. Texas last played for the conference crown in 2005 when it beat Colorado 70-3 and went on to win the National Championship. Nebraska's last showing came in 2006 when it lost 6-22 to Oklahoma.
