Stanford running back Toby Gerhart will join Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, and Alabama running back Mark Ingram at this Saturday's Heisman Trophy awards ceremony in New York City. Gerhart, one of three improbable finalists, is being listed at +300 on the moneyline to win the famous award in Sportsbook.com's Heisman 2009 odds.
Toby Gerhart, like fellow rusher Mark Ingram, was an afterthought as a Heisman candidate when the season kicked off in 
August. But his performance over the course of the season made it difficult for voters to ignore him. The 6'2" 235lbs. Gerhart helped the Cardinal to an unexpected 8-4 record by leading the nation in both rushing and rushing touchdowns.
The 22 year old capped off the regular season with his third 200 plus yard rushing game of the season in a 45-38 win over Notre Dame. Gerhart finished the day with 205 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. He also crested the 200 yard mark in a 51-42 win against No. 7 Oregon, going for a season high 223 yards on 38 carries.
Gerhart has amassed 1736 rush yard and 26 touchdowns heading into Stanford's December 31st Sun Bowl meeting with Oklahoma. He is averaging 5.6 yards per carry on the season and has topped the 100 yard mark in 10 of the Cardinal's 12 games. Gerhart's 144.7 yard per game average ranks second only to Fresno State's Ryan Mathews' 151.3 average.
