Boston College vs USC 2009 Emerald Bowl Opening Point Spread: The Boston College Eagles and the USC Trojans have been invited to compete against each other in the 2009 Emerald Bowl at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. The two schools have accepted and will square off at 8:00pm ET on December 26th on ESPN. Boston College followed up its successful 9-5 campaign with another solid season under first year coach and longtime 
defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani. The Eagles were not able to repeat as Atlantic Division champion, but they did finish just a game back of first place Clemson with an 8-4 overall record and a 5-3 conference mark. Boston College won three of its final four games and closed out the year with a 19-17 victory at division rival Maryland.
This year's appearance at the Emerald Bowl marks the second time the Eagles have participated in the relatively young event. BC took out Colorado State by a score of 35-21 in the 2003 game.
USC entered the season as the favorite to win the Pac-10 conference, returning 12 starters and 59 lettermen from last year's 12-1 team. However, things did not go according to plan for Head Coach Pete Carroll and his highly regarded squad. The Trojans stumbled early, losing in week three to a bad Washington team, and late, falling in three of their final five games. They went on to finish fifth in the Pac-10 standings after a season finale loss to Arizona (17-21) dropped their overall record to 8-4 and conference tally to 5-4.
Carroll is hopeful a solid showing against the Eagles can add a little cheer to an otherwise sour season.
"We're disappointed with the way we played the last half of the season," Carroll said. "So the Emerald Bowl gives us a chance to finish the year on a positive note."
