Michigan State vs Texas Tech 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl Opening Point Spread: The Big 10 and Big 12 will do battle on January 2nd in San Antonio as the Michigan State Spartans and Texas Tech Red Raiders square off in the Valero Alamo Bowl. Online bookmaker Sportsbook.com has tabbed the Red Raiders as a -7.5 against the spread favorite in their 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl opening point spread.
Michigan State became bowl eligible in mid-November with back-to-back wins over Western Michigan and conference rival
Purdue, which brought its season win total to six. The Spartans, however, did not exactly finish strong, losing three of their last five games, including a 14-42 season finale loss at home to Penn State. Mark Dantonio's squad closed out the year with a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in Big 10 play, which was good enough for sixth place in the conference standings.
Michigan State also dealt with some late season off the field turmoil as several players were involved in an on-campus residence hall fight. Nine players have been charged as a result of the November 22nd incident, including three starters.
Texas Tech, after losing Heisman finalist Graham Harrell and first round draft pick Michael Crabtree, put together another solid season under Head Coach Mike Leach, going 8-4 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders finished third in the Big 12 South standings behind No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 2 Texas.
Tech's season was highlighted by a 31-10 road win at Nebraska and a 41-13 whitewash of Oklahoma on November 21st in Lubbock. Leach's troops closed out the regular portion of their schedule in impressive fashion, winning three of their final four games by an average of 18.7 points per game.
