The 2008 Heisman Trophy will be awarded this Saturday at 8:00pm ET in New York, NY. Texas Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy is one of the finalist to win the most recognized trophy in all of college athletics. Sportsbook.com has McCoy listed at 4 to 1 odds to take home the Heisman.
The 6'3" McCoy, a native of Tuscola, TX, established himself as a Heisman contender early in the season. However, he solidified his status when the Longhorns plowed their way to an 8-0 start with victories over Oklahoma, Missouri, and Oklahoma State.
McCoy led his team to an 11-1 record and a third place ranking in the BCS standings. The junior field general threw for 3445 yards and 32 touchdowns on his way to a 179.20 passer rating. Colt also led the Longhorns in rushing, accumulating 576 yards on 128 carries (4.5 yards per carry) and scoring 10 rushing touchdowns.
McCoy, who has indicated that he will return for his senior year, will cap off his brillant junior season at the Fiesta Bowl on January 5th in Glendale, Arizona, where his Longhorns with meet the Buckeyes of Ohio State.
