Boise State had BCS in mind from the opening kick this season, and as fate would have it, their first game was probably 
their most important as they hosted a formidable Oregon squad. The Broncos won that game handily, beating the Ducks 19-8 on the blue turf and went on to win their next 12 contests to finish with a 13-0 record. The Broncos, obviously, won the WAC Championship, going 8-0 in conference play.
Head Coach Chris Petersen has guided the Broncos to three conference titles and four double digit win seasons in his four year tenure at the school. Boise State is 48-4 with Petersen on the sidelines and a win over TCU on January 4th would give him his second undefeated season as the leader of the Broncos.
It is safe to say that Boise State has the most dramatic win in Feista Bowl history, beating Oklahoma 43-42 in OT in the 2007 game with the famous Statue of Liberty play. That victory marked the Broncos only appearance in the Fiesta.
Head Coach Gary Patterson's run at TCU is nearly as impressive as Petersen's at Boise State. Patterson has five double digit win seasons to his credit, including this year's 12-0 campaign. The Horned Frogs captured the Mountain West title for Patterson with an 8-0 conference run, scoring blowout wins over No. 14 BYU and No. 23 Utah in the process.
The Horned Frogs have never played in the Fiesta Bowl and their appearance in this year's game marks their first trip to a BCS bowl.
These two teams met in last year's Poinsettia Bowl with TCU coming from 13 down to win 17-16.
