Mike Stoops' Wildcats followed up last year's eight win season with another one as Arizona closed out the regular portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record and second place finish in the Pac 10 standings. The Wildcats did suffer back-to-back losses to Cal and Oregon in November, but they rebounded with road wins against in-state rival Arizona State and USC. The stellar finish vaulted Arizona past Oregon State and Stanford in the conference race.
Arizona's appearance in the Holiday Bowl marks just the fourth post-season game for the school since the 1997 season and the second of the Mike Stoops era (won Las Vegas Bowl 31-21 last year against BYU).
