This Saturday, December 20th marks the beginning of the 2008 college football bowl season. There are 34 bowl games to be played, providing college football fans plenty of pre and post holiday wagering opportunities. Online bookmaker SBGglobal.com has college bowl predictions on every game, including the GMAC Bowl between Tulsa and Ball State and the Poinsettia Bowl between Boise State and TCU.
Poinsettia Bowl: Boise State Broncos vs TCU Horned Frogs (-2.5, O/U 46):
The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is scheduled for Tuesday, December 23rd at 8:00pm ET. The game will be played at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego and be broadcast on ESPN. The Boise State Broncos come into the Poinsettia Bowl with a perfect 12-0 record and a WAC Championship under their belt. Had it not been for a perfect finish by the Utah Utes, who are ranked three spots ahead of the Broncos in the BCS standings, Boise State would have been this year's BCS busting school.
The 11th ranked Horned Frogs sport a 10-2 record and a 7-1 conference mark, both good enough for a second place finish in the Mountain West conference. TCU's only losses came to number one Oklahoma and number six Utah. Gary Patterson's team played a stiffling brand of defense this season, holding teams to just 10.9 points per game.
GMAC Bowl: Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs Ball State Cardinals (+2.5, O/U 77):
The GMAC Bowl will be played on January 6th at 8:00pm ET at the Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama (ESPN). Tulsa stormed out of the gates this season, winning their first eight games, but dropped three of their last five to finish at 10-3. Despite the mediocre conclusion, the Golden Hurricane were able to take the top spot in the Conference USA standings. Todd Graham's troops, which are currently unranked, posted an average of 47.4 points per game this year.
The 12-1Ball State Cardinals went undefeated in the regular season, capturing the MAC's West division with an 8-0 conference record. However, a heartbreaking loss to Buffalo in the MAC Championship game resulted in the 8-5 Bulls taking the conference title. The defeat dropped the Cardinals to 23rd in the AP poll and 22nd in the BCS standings.
