The college bowl season gets started this Saturday, December 20th, but it will hit high gear on New Year's Day when the Rose Bowl and the Orange Bowl take place. These two traditional bowls are the first of the BCS games to be played and they will be followed by the Sugar Bowl on January 2nd, the Fiesta Bowl on January 5th, and the BCS National Championship on January 8th.
Sportsbook.com has college football bowl predictions on all 34 FBS bowl games, including the FedEX Orange Bowl and the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl.
FedEX Orange Bowl: Cincinnati Bearcats vs Virginia Tech Hokies (+1.5, O/U 42)
The Orange Bowl kicks off January 1st at 8:30pm ET at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida (FOX). 11-2 Cincinnati surprised everyone this season by winning the Big East conference. Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and South Florida received most of the pre-season hype, but the Bearcats proved to be the best club, going 6-1 in conference play and beating all of the aforementioned schools in head to head play. The Bearcats are ranked 12th in the AP poll and the BCS standings.
Virginia Tech was not the powerhouse that many people expected, but they still earned an impressive 9-4 record and another ACC Championship Tropy. The Hokies hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, losing three of four, but finished the year on a three game winning streak, including a 30-12 victory over Boston College in the ACC Championship. Tech is ranked 21st in the AP poll and 19th in the BCS standings.
Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl: BYU Cougars vs Arizona Wildcats (-3, O/U 61.5)
The Las Vegas Bowl is slated for an 8:00pm ET kick off this Saturday, December 20th at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada (ESPN). BYU had a great 2008 regular season campaign, finishing with a 10-2 record; however, thanks to the stellar play of Utah and TCU, the Cougars finished in third place in the Mountain West conference. Bronco Mendenhall's squad, which averaged 35.3 points per game this season, is currently ranked 16th in the BCS standings.
Arizona started the season in fine fashion, winning four of their first five games, but concluded it by losing four of their last seven. The resulting 7-5 record was good enough for fifth place in the PAC 10. The unranked Wildcats capped off their regular season by pounding in-state rival Arizona State 31-10.
