The BYU Cougars will face the PAC 10's Arizona Wildcats tonight in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl. The game is scheduled to get under way at 8:00pm ET at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. College bowl predictions at Bookmaker.com have Arizona listed as a -3.5 favorite.
BYU began the 2008 season by winning their first six games, and went on to finish an impressive 10-2. The Cougars, however, were unable to keep up with the other two big dogs in the Mountain West conference, losing to both TCU and Utah. As a result, they concluded the regular season in third place in the conference standings.
The Cougars are led by junior quarterback Max Hall and sophomore tailback Harvey Unga. Hall passed for over 3500 yards, threw 34 touchdowns to 13 interceptions, and compiled a 160.3 passer rating. Unga rushed for 1061 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.
Arizona showed some improvement this season, despite returning just 13 starters from last year's 5-7 team. The Wildcats come into the Las Vegas Bowl at 7-5, their best record in the Mike Stoops era. Arizona's 5-4 PAC 10 record garnered a fifth place conference finish.
The Wildcats made big strides on offense this season, improving their point per game average almost 10 points from last year (28ppg to 37.1ppg). Much of that had to do with senior quarterback Willie Tuitama, whose solid play resulted in a 142.97 passer rating, and sophomore running back Nic Grisby, who rushed for 1066 yards (5.5 yards per carry) and scored 12 rushing touchdowns.
