The Colorado State Rams and the Fresno State Bulldogs will battle it today in the 2008 New Mexico Bowl. Fresno State received quite a bit of hype entering the 2008 season as they returned 17 starters from last year's 9-4 squad. However, the Bulldogs struggled to meet expectations and never became a serious factor in the WAC. They did manage to grind out a 7-5 record, but their 4-4 conference mark relegated them to a fifth place WAC finish.

Pat Hill's teams are typically known for their ground game and his capable stable of backs produced an average of 176.8 rushing yards per game this season. Fresno's defense, however, had a difficult time keeping opponents in check, allowing over 30 points per game on average this year.

Colorado State, despite returning just 12 starters, improved dramatically on last year's disappointing 3-9 finish. The Rams jumped their overall record to 6-6 this season, and they finished with a .500 mark in conference play as well at 4-4. First year Head Coach Steve Fairchild guided his squad to a fifth place finish in the Mountain West standings.

The Rams are led on offense by senior running back Gartrell Johnson , who concluded the regular season with 1,191 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns. CSU's defense, like Fresno's, was rather porous, giving up an average of 29.8 points per game.
