The Central Michigan Chippewas and the Florida Atlantic Owls will face each other tonight in the 2008 Motor City Bowl. The stand alone contest is set to kick off at 8:00pm ET at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan (ESPN). College bowl odds at Bookmaker.com have the Chippewas favored by -7. 
Florida Atlantic returned 18 starters from last year's 8-5 squad, but started the season in horrendous fashion. The Owls dropped four of their first five games before getting things turned around on October 18th with a 24-20 victory over Western Kentucky. They went on to win four of their next five to finish at 6-6 and in fourth place in the Sun Belt standings.
The Owls, coached by the legendary Howard Schnellenberger, are headed to just the second bowl game in their brief FBS history (won last year's New Orleans Bowl 44-27 over Memphis). Florida Atlantic, which averages 25.2 points per game, is led by running back Charles Pierre. The senior standout rushed for 937 yards (6.5 yards per carry) and scored eight touchdowns.
Central Michigan, which is making its third straight appearance in the Motor City Bowl, returned 16 starters from last year's MAC Championship team. The Chippewas put together a stellar 8-4 record, but were unable to overcome the Ball State Cardinals in the MAC's West division. They finished conference play at 6-2 after dropping the final two games on their regular season schedule against Ball State and Eastern Michigan.
Junior quarterback Dan LeFevour has had a brilliant season for Central Michigan, passing for 2531 yards and 19 touchdowns, and leading the team in rushing with 536 yards (six rushing touchdowns). The Chippewas passing oriented offense averaged 30.3 points per game this year.
