2014 BCS Championship Game Odds

auburn nick marshallThe 2014 BCS Championship Game does not feature the match-up most envisioned as an Ohio State versus Florida State championship clash was predicted following Alabama’s surprise Iron Bowl loss. Auburn’s victory in that game, coupled with its SEC Championship win over Missouri and the Buckeyes loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship Game, has resulted in Gus Malzahn’s Tigers taking on the top ranked Seminoles in the January 6th battle for the Coaches’ Trophy. The latest college football points spreads and odds from offshore bookmaker Sportsbook.ag have Florida State listed as a -7.5 against the spread favorite and the Over/Under set at 68 points.

Auburn Tigers vs Florida State Seminoles Odds (-7.5, Over/Under 68): It would be easy to label Auburn a team of destiny given its incredible win over Georgia and equally stunning defeat of Alabama, but there is the issue of Florida State and its season long dominance of any and all comers. Some would say that only bolsters the Tigers national championship case against the Seminoles, though.

There is no question Auburn has played the more grueling schedule of these two teams, having faced the likes of LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri. In fact, the Tigers’ slate, which also included meetings with non-conference bowl teams in Washington State and Arkansas State, ranks as the most difficult in the country.

Still, with two miracles wins and a 21-35 loss in Baton Rouge on its resume, Auburn is seen as being inferior to Florida State. The Seminoles schedule, which ranked as the nation’s 38th most difficult, was not completely devoid of capable teams. Pittsburgh, Boston College, Maryland, Miami, Syracuse, Duke, and Clemson all earned bowl berths and FSU destroyed those seven schools by an average of 37.6 points per game.

Notable Trends: Florida State is 10-0 straight up and 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 games as a favorite with a total of 54.5 or more points.
