West Virginia began the season with national title aspirations, but after falling 24-3 to East Carolina in just their second game, those hopes quickly disappeared. However, the Mountaineers regained their composure and put together a respectable 8-4 season. Thanks to a five game win streak in the middle portion of the year and a 5-2 conference record, West Virginia finished in third place in the Big East standings.

The Mountaineers are led by senior quarterback Pat White and sophomore running back Noel Divine. White has thrown for 1510 yards and 18 touchdowns and also rushed for 919 yards (5.4 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns. Devine has rushed for 1228 yards and averaged 6.4 yards per carry.

North Carolina continued their turn-around this year under Head Coach Butch Davis. Eighteen starters returned from last year's 4-8 team (Davis' second with the school) and cranked out an 8-4 mark this season. The Tar Heels went 4-4 in conference play and finished behind Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech in the ACC's Coastal division.

UNC averaged 27.5 points per game this year while allowing just 20.3 points per contest. Junior receiver Hakeem Nicks is one the Tar Heels biggest offensive weapons, as he hauled in 60 passes for 1005 yards during the regular season along with nine receiving touchdowns.

2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl Betting Trend: The Under is 6-2 in UNC's last eight games as an underdog with a spread between 0 to 3.5.
