Florida State returned 15 starters this year from last season's 7-6 team. The experience of the returning lettermen helped the Seminoles accumulate an impressive 8-4 overall record. Head Coach Bobby Bowden guided his squad to six wins in the season's first seven games and a 5-3 conference mark. The Seminoles, despite losing two of their last three games, took second place in the ACC's Atlantic division.
Florida State churned out 32.7 points per game on the legs of a capable stable of running backs, led by senior Antone Smith. Smith rushed for 753 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns during the regular season.
