NCAA Bowl Picks: Champs Bowl Michigan State vs. Boston College

by Alexander Banks on Friday, December 28th, 2007

Boston College missed out on a trip to the Orange Bowl as they lost the ACC Championship game to Virginia Tech so they have to settle for playing Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl.  How motivated they will be is a question mark for Friday’s game.  The Eagles do have an offense that looks powerful led by quarterback Matt Ryan.  He was the favorite at one time for the Heisman Trophy before slumping down the stretch. SBG Global reports that early college football betting has the public taking Boston College at Home.

Michigan State (7-5) vs. Boston College (10-3)
Friday, 5:00 pm Eastern – ESPN

SBG Global Opening Line: Boston College  - 3.5   , Total 57

Boston College on defense was the best in the nation at stopping the run, allowing only 68 rushing yards per game. That could be a big problem for Michigan State since they love to run the ball.  Javon Ringer and Jehuu Caulcrick combined for 2,159 yards and 27 touchdowns this season.  If those two players are stopped the Spartans may look to receiver Devin Thomas who caught 17 passes for 255 yards and 3 TD’s in the last two games.  The key to the game may be quarterback Brian Hoyer and his ability to find Thomas deep.  Michigan State will need to score because their defense is weak.  They allowed 33 points per game in the Big 10 this season.  They did have defensive end Jonal Saint-Dic who is a finalist for the Ted Hendricks award as the nation’s top defensive end. The problem for Michigan State is that he is among five players that will miss the game for the Spartans.
