Texas A&M vs. Georgia College Football Picks – 2009 Independence Bowl

by Reno Gold on Monday, December 28th, 2009

Texas A&M vs. Georgia College Football Picks – 2009 Independence Bowl: Two traditional powers, Georgia of the SEC and Texas A&M of the Big 12 Conference, will provide what appears to be an exciting Independence Bowl match-up. The game kicks-off at 5:00 p.m. ET Monday and will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

College football picks oddsmakers at online sportsbook SBGglobal.com have installed Georgia as 6 1/2-chalk and -260 moneyline favorite versus the Aggies with a 67 total.

It's no surprise the betting total for this game is set so high. Both teams bring explosive offenses while neither squad has been accused of playing much defense. The Bulldogs are the better of the two with their No. 30 national ranking in total defense, giving up 328 yards per game to their opposition. The Aggies were much worse defensively, ranked 107 of 117 FBS teams. The Aggies gave up a whopping 431.33 ypg. Totals gamblers will love this stat. Texas A&M was the 104th worst team nationally in scoring defense giving up 32.67 ppg.

Offensively the Aggies were very effective ranked No. 5 nationally in total offense and No. 1 in the Big 12. On the ground A&M had the No. 25 best rushing attack and was No. 22 through the air.

The Bulldogs were somewhat inconsistent on offense in 2009 finishing the regular season ranked 73rd, with 361.83 ypg. Georgia was 59th in scoring averaging 27.67 ppg. The Dogs were ranked No. 54 in rushing (157.08 ypg.) and No. 78 in passing offense (204.75 ypg.)

College Football Picks: Picking a winner for this game is tough primarily because these teams look evenly matched on paper – however- games aren't played on paper are they?  That is why this writer is going with the Aggies to cover as a touchdown underdog.

Perhaps betting the total would be a fun bet for viewing purposes. My favorite bet here would be an UNDER wager. Georgia is putting lots of emphasis on defensive improvement during its preparation for the game. The Aggies might find scoring against an SEC defense will prove more difficult than against the run of the mill Big 12 D.
