College Football Bowl Spreads & Predictions: No offense to FBS non-BCS qualifying schools, but finally, the real bowl season begins Tuesday when the first two bowls with invitees from BCS conferences kick off. North Carolina State (8-4) will try to upset No. 22 West Virginia (9-3) in the Champs Sports Bowl (6:30 pm ET), at Citrus Bowl Stadium down in Orlando, Fla., to be followed by the Insight Bowl at Sun Devils Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. (10 PM), where No. 14 Missouri (10-2) goes head to head with Iowa (7-5). Both of Tuesday's games will be televised on ESPN.

North Carolina State finished its 2010 regular season by losing at Maryland, 35-14, on Nov. 27. The Wolfpack went into that game as 1 1/2-chalk favorites, while the 69 combined points cashed for OVER bettors.

The Mountaineers were 35-14 winners in their final game against Rutgers on Dec. 4. West Virginia fell short of covering the 21 1/2-chalk in that game, but the 49 combined points scored cashed for OVER bettors.

Missouri was a 35-7 winner at home against Kansas in their last outing. They covered ATS as 24 1/2-point favorites, while the combined 42 points scored cashed on the total for UNDER bettors.

Iowa lost its last game, a 27-24 result against Minnesota on November 27. The Hawkeyes fell short covering ATS in that game as a 14 1/2-chalk favorites, while the 51 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

Tuesday’s bowl predictions: So far in these pre-New Year’s bowls I’ve picked winners in 6-of-9 bowls against the spread. Let’s see if we can keep up the good luck. Today I predict North Carolina State will cover as a +3 point underdog, but I expect a close game. In the nightcap, I look for Mizzou to easily cover as a 3-chalk favorite versus Iowa.
