The 2008 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl between the Nevada Wolf Pack and the Maryland Terrapins kicks off today at 4:30pm ET at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho. This WAC versus ACC match-up will be televised on ESPN. College football bowl picks at SBGglobal.com have Nevada listed as a -3 favorite.
The Wolf Pack, who returned 13 starters from last year's 6-7 squad, worked their way to 7-5 overall record in the regular season. Nevada also finished 5-3 in the WAC, a mark good enough for third place in the nine team conference. Head Coach Chris Ault's team concluded the season by defeating this year's Independence Bowl winner, Louisiana Tech, 35-31 in Ruston, LA.
Nevada had little trouble moving the ball this year or putting points on the scoreboard. Behind the arm and legs of sophomore quarterback Colin Kaepernick (2479 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, 1115 rushing yards, 16 rushing touchdowns), the Wolf Pack offense produced 510 yards per game and 37.8 points per contest.
The Terrapins, like the Wolf Pack, also brought back 13 starters from a 6-7 team, and they also produced a 7-5 record this season. Maryland went 4-4 in ACC play and finished in third place in the conference's Atlantic division. Head Coach Ralph Friedgen, in his eighth year with the school, is 3-2 in bowl games after losing last year's Emerald Bowl 14-21 to Oregon State.
Maryland had anything but a high powered offense this year, producing just 20.1 points per game; however, their defense limited teams to 355.6 yards per game and 21.4 points per game.
2008 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl Betting Trend: The Under is 8-2 in Maryland's last 10 games as an underdog with a spread between 0 to 3.5.
