College Football returns to Bronx, New York on Thursday when Syracuse (7-5), the 4th place team from the BIG EAST will play Kansas State (7-5), the third-place team from the BIG 12 North Division in the inagural New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Kick off time for the game is set for 3:30 pm ET and will be televised on ESPN. The betting spreads favored Kansas State by 2 1/2-points when betting opened, but as of Thursday morning, the line has been bet down to a PICK with a 47 1/2 total. These two teams have met twice before in bowl games, the first in the 1997 Fiesta Bowl, then four years later in the Insight Bowl. The teams split the two meetings 1-1. For Syracuse, today's game ends a six year long bowl drought. The Wildcats have gone bowless since the 2006 Texas Bowl when they lost to another BIG EAST school Rutgers 37-10. Today's Pinstripe Bowl is the first for legendary Kansas State coach Bill Snyder since coming out of retirement two years ago.
In only his second season at the helm of the Syracuse football program, Doug Marrone has successfully revived the team to playing winnning football. Marrone's Orange made a statement to BIG EAST foe by having a successful October winning three of four conference games against traditional BIG EAST powers, South Florida, West Virginia and Cincinnati. Their only loss in October came at the hands of pre-season favorite Pittsburgh. However, the Orange suffered a late season swoon losing winnable home games to Connecticut and Boston College.
Kansas State started its season like – balls of fire – winning its first four SU, that included victories over UCLA, Iowa State and Central Florida. Like Syracuse, Kansas State lost four of its final six games.
Early Betting Trends show the public wagering 73 percent of spreads bets on the Wildcats while the OVER is the favorite wager on totals betting with 51 percent of action played.
Syracuse was awful at home covering the spreads but were very good away from the Carrier Dome going 5-1 ATS. The UNDER cashed in six of nine lined games on the posted total.
Reno Gold's Bowl Picks: I am betting heavy on Kansas State as a SU PICK in this one. I think they play in a more difficult league and have better athletes. I don't see how this game is lined as a PICK but I'll take it. BEST BET – Kansas State (PICK).
