Florida State vs West Virginia 2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Picks, Predictions & Odds: The Florida State Seminoles will take the field for the last time with Head Coach Bobby Bowden when they face the West Virginia Mountaineers in tomorrow afternoon's 2010 Gator Bowl. The game is set to kickoff at 1:00pm ET at Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida; it will be broadcast live on CBS. 2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Picks, Predictions & Odds at online bookmaker SPORTSBETTING.com have the Mountaineers listed as a -2.5 against the spread favorite.
Florida State got off to a rough start this season, going just 2-4 through its first six games. However, the Seminoles did rebound, despite a season ending injury to starting quarterback Christian Ponder on November 7th, winning four of their last six games to finish with a 6-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark in ACC play (third place in the Atlantic Division).
While the late season recovery did garner FSU its 28th consecutive bowl appearance, it was not enough to save Bobby Bowden's job. Bowden, who has spent the past 34 years on the Seminole sidelines and compiled a 309-91-4 record at Florida State, resigned under pressure from boosters and school officials at the conclusion of the regular season.
Florida State, which won the Champs Sports Bowl 42-13 last year over Wisconsin, last played in the Gator Bowl in 2004. The Seminoles also faced West Virginia in that game, winning 30-18. FSU is 21-10-1 in bowls games under Bowden.
West Virginia got to nine wins for the second straight season under second year Head Coach Bill Stewart as the Mountaineers went 9-3 overall and 5-2 in Big East play. West Virginia, which won three of its last four games, finished third in the conference standings behind undefeated Cincinnati and 10-3 Pittsburgh, despite beating the Panthers head-to-head.
The Mountaineers have been trouble for just about every team they have faced in recent bowl games. West Virginia has reeled off four straight postseason victories coming into tomorrow's New Year's Day clash with the Seminoles, beating Georgia, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. The school played in the 2006 Gator Bowl, which it won 38-35 over the aforementioned Yellow Jackets.
2010 Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Betting Trend: Florida State is 5-0-1 against the spread and 5-1 straight up over the last three years playing as an underdog coming off a loss (Over is 5-1 in those games as well).
Florida State Seminoles +2.5 (-110), Over 60.5 (-110), +115 (Moneyline)
