So how are people betting? Early trends tell us that 65% of side wagers placed are on Clemson to cover the spreads as favorite, however; 56% are wagering the moneyline that USF wins SU. The OVER (41) has been bet by 56% of totals players.
USF returns to bowl action this year after missing out in 2009. The Bulls last appeared in a bowl in 2008 when they defeated Memphis 41-10 in the 2008 St. Petersburg Bowl. The Tigers went bowling in 2009, defeating Kentucky 21-13 in the Music City Bowl.
Clemson went 6-6 overall in 2010 and tied for third in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 4-4 record. Clemson defeated bowl-bound NC State, Maryland and Georgia Tech. Three of their four conference losses were by less than a touchdown. In addition, they lost to No. 1-ranked Auburn by just three points in overtime.
USF finished the regular season with a 7-5 record and tied for third in the BIG EAST witha 3-4 conference mark. Three of the Bulls four conference losses were by less than a touchdown, including a three-point loss to Connecticut, who is representing the league in the BCS Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma. South Florida defeated bowl-eligible Louisville and rival Miami.
Versus the betting spread, USF failed to cash for backers more than it did, going 4-7 ATS. They were better going against the spread away from home going 3-2, which could be a good thing since they are playing their bowl game up in North Carolina. At home USF went 1-5 ATS. The UNDER was the best bet on the total all season cashing in five of eight lined games.
Clemson backers lost money as their Tigers only covered ATS in five of 11 games, 2-4 at home and 3-2 on the road. UNDER bettors were big winners cashing in seven of eight posted totals.
Meineke Bowl Pick – My best bet prediction – OVER 41.
