2011 Bowl Predictions

kansas state bill synderThe College Football bowl season is almost here and while it will fail to yield a true, playoff style champion, it will bring excitement as well as a host of wagering opportunities. The action is scheduled to begin this Saturday, December 17th with three games, including a New Mexico Bowl meeting between Temple and Wyoming; it will conclude on Monday, January 9th with a BCS National Championship Game clash between No.1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama. 2011 Bowl Predictions have the season’s final contest listed as an against the spread pick’em.

The bowl committees seemingly missed the boat when they made this year’s BCS matchups (Michigan?, Virginia Tech?, Clemson?), but their ineptitude/corruption did yield at least two intriguing non-BCS postseason clashes. The Cotton Bowl meeting between Kansas State and Arkansas is certainly one of the more anticipated games on the docket as is a Las Vegas Bowl dust up between Arizona State and Boise State.

Kansas State Wildcats vs Arkansas Razorbacks (-7.5/62.5): Kansas State has been undervalued all season, finding itself an underdog eight times despite posting a 10-2 record. Now the Wildcats are catching 7.5 points from an Arkansas team that also owns the same 10-2 mark. While the Razorbacks, which have lost only to Alabama and LSU, have probably earned favored status, the number seems pretty steep given Bill Synder’s coaching prowess. Kansas State, like Arkansas, also played a grinder of a schedule, facing tough opponents in Miami, Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Texas. In other words, the Wildcats will be more than prepared for what it is the Razorbacks bring to the table.

Arizona State Sun Devils vs Boise State Broncos (-14/65.5): There is no question Boise State is the superior team here, but they catch an Arizona State squad that has not been to a bowl game since 2007. Suffice it to say the Sun Devils will be excited about this game while the Broncos, after getting unjustly stiffed by the BCS, may show up less than enthused. The only real scenario where an ASU victory looks plausible would be in the event of a three or four turnover night from Boise State; however, if the Broncos are slow out of the gate, the Sun Devils do have enough talent to keep this game close.  The Broncos are 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games as a 14 to 17.5 point favorite, and this game looks like another one where they may struggle to cover the number.
