Virginia Tech vs Alabama College Football Odds, Predictions & Picks: No. 5 Alabama will meet the seventh ranked Hokies of Virginia Tech in a primetime matchup tonight at the Georgia Dome. The two highly regarded programs are set to get underway at 8:00pm ET on ABC. College football odds at online bookmaker BetUS.com have the Crimson Tide listed as a -7 against the spread favorite in this evening much anticipated battle.

Alabama stunned the nation a year ago by putting together a 12-2 Virginia Tech vs Alabama College Football Odds, Predictions & Picksseason with just 10 returning starters. The Tide will not catch anyone by surprise this season, though, returning nine starters from a defense that held teams to just 14.3 points and 264 yards per game.

The Crimson Tide's best player, junior linebacker Rolando McClain, will occupy the middle for the stout unit. McClain, who led the team in tackles a season ago with 95, will anchor the front seven along with defensive end Brandon Deaderick. Free safety Justin Woodall and cornerback Javier Arenas give 'Bama two top performers in the secondary as well.

Nick Saban's offense may be a work in progress this season after losing starting quarterback John Parker Wilson, tailback Glen Coffee, and left tackle Andre Smith. Greg McElroy takes over for Wilson under center while Mark Ingram fills Coffee's spot. McElroy completed eight of his 11 pass attmepts last year for 123 yards.

Virginia Tech had their usual solid season, going 10-4 and winning the ACC Championship. The Hokies also earned a trip to the Orange Bowl for the second straight year, where they took out Big East champ Cincinnati 20-7.

Frank Beamer welcomes back 15 starters and 40 lettermen from last year's squad, which has expectations high in Blacksburg. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor is back for his junior season after throwing for 1036 yards as a sophomore. Taylor also ranked second on the team in rushing with 738 yards and seven touchdowns.

Running back Darren Evans created quite a buzz as a freshman last season, rushing for 1265 yards and 11 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Evans torn his ACL over the summer and will miss the entire year.  Taking his place is true freshman David Wilson.

Tech, as usual, will depend on their defense. Defensive coordinator Bud Foster has seven starters back from last year's quality group, including Cody Grimm (71 tackles, 7.5 sacks), Jason Worilds (62 tackles, eight sacks), and Stephan Virgil (43 tackles, six interceptions).

The Hokie defense gave up an average of 14.3 points and 264 yards per game in 2008. This year's numbers should be in the same ballpark.

BetUS.com Virginia Tech vs Alabama College Football Odds, Predictions & Picks:

Virginia Tech Hokies +7 (-110), Over 37 (-110), +240 (Moneyline)

Alabama Crimson Tide -7 (-110), Under 37 (-110), -280 (Moneyline)

BYU vs Oklahoma College Football Picks, Odds & Predictions: The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners will take on the No. 20 BYU Cougars tonight at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. This evening's contest should feature plenty of offensive fireworks as the two teams combined averaged over 85 points per game last season. Kickoff for this Big 12 versus Mountain West clash is set for 7:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. SBGglobal.com has the Sooners listed as a heavy -22.5 against the favorite to take out the Cougars.

The Sooners roll into Dallas with one of the most talented teams in BYU vs Oklahoma College Football Picks, Odds & Predictionsthe country. The offense, which posted an average of 51.1 points per game in 2008, is still engineered by Heisman winning quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford lit up opposing secondaries last year for 4720 yards and 50 touchdowns on his way to the coveted trophy. The top two rushers, Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray, who combined for 2222 yards and 34 touchdowns, return as well.

The offensive line is somewhat of a question mark, though, with four starters moving on. Also, Bradford will be without his two favorite targets from 2008 tonight. Wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias is playing for the Chicago Bears and tight end Jermaine Gresham suffered a knee injury last week that will keep him out of this evening's lineup.

The Sooners defense brings back eight starters from last year's underachieving unit. The team gave up un-Stoops like numbers a season ago, yielding 24.5 points and 368 yards per game. That should change this year with a powerhouse front seven in place. Linebacker Travis Lewis, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, defensive end Jeremy Beal, and defensive end Auston English, just to name a few, all returned to Norman.

The Cougars garnered a top 20 AP ranking after finishing up the 2008 campaign with a 10-3 record. Despite the sensational mark and second place MWC conclusion, the season ended on a low for BYU after the team lost the regular season finale 24-48 to Utah and then fell 21-31 to Arizona in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall's squad will again be led by quarterback Max Hall and running back Harvey Unga. Hall had a fantastic junior season, completing 330 of his 477 pass attempts for 3957 yards and 35 touchdowns. Unga earned second team MWC honors for a second time after rumbling for 1132 yards and 11 touchdowns. The 239lbs. tailback also snagged 42 catches for 309 yards and four touchdowns.

Eight starters are back on defense for Mendenhall, but that may not matter tonight against the Sooners. The team had respectable numbers last year, holding teams to 21.9 points and 356 yards per game, but their front seven will have a difficult time trying to control Brown and Murray, which will make Bradford and the passing game alomst impossible to stop.

SBGglobal.com BYU vs Oklahoma College Football Picks, Odds & Predictions:

BYU Cougars +22.5 (-110), Over 65.5 (-110)

Oklahoma Sooners -22.5 (-110), Under 65.5 (-110)

Baylor vs Wake Forest College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds PDF Print E-mail

Baylor vs Wake Forest College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds: Baylor and Wake Forest will open the season against each for a second straight year when they meet at BB & T Field this afternoon. Wake got a 13-41 win in Waco last year after Baylor turned the ball over three times. The Bears are hoping to avoid any miscus when things get underway today at 3:30pm ET in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. College football predictions at Bodog.com have the Demon Deacons listed as a -2.5 against the spread home favorite in today's game.

Record-wise, Baylor's 2008 season looked like most any other Baylor vs Wake Forest College Football Predictions, Picks & OddsBears' season. The team finished 4-8 under new Head Coach Art Briles and in fifth place in the Big 12 South with a 2-6 conference mark. However, the talent level on the field indicated that, despite the poor record, this was not an ordinary Baylor squad.

The team's tremendous upside could start to be realized this season as sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin turns into an even more potent weapon. Griffin had an amazing true freshman season in 2008, throwing for 2091 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just three interceptions while rushing for 843 and 13 scores. He is the kind of player that gives defensive coordinators nightmares.

Griffin will have the luxury of working behind an offensive line that returns eight of the top 10 from a season ago. The Bears also have leading rusher Jay Finley back as well as top receivers Kendall Wright and David Gettis.

Defensively Baylor fared decently for playing in the Big 12 South with offensive juggernauts like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, and Texas Tech. The team gave up 29.3 points and 393 yards per game. Those numbers will most certainly drop with eight starters back, including top players Joe Pawelek and Jordan Lake.

Wake Forest had its third straight winning season last year, going 8-5 and finishing in fourth place in the ACC Atlantic division. They concluded the year with a 29-19 win over Navy in the EagleBank Bowl.

Head Coach Jim Grobe welcomes 13 starters and 44 lettermen back from that team, which should translate into another solid finish in the standings. The Demon Deacon offense, which averaged 21 points and 308 yards per game in 2008, should see some positive developments with nine starters returning, including quarterback Riley Skinner. In addition to Skinner, the offense also brings back leading rushers Brandon Pendergrass and Josh Harris and most of the two-deep offensive line.

Wake Forest will, however, see a drop in their defensive production. Only four starters return from last year's stellar unit and the losses are huge. First round draft pick and top tackler Aaron Curry (LB) is gone, as is second round selection Alphonso Smith (CB).

Bodog.com Baylor vs Wake Forest College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds:

Baylor Bears +2.5 (-110), Over 54 (-105)

Wake Forest Demon Deacons -2.5 (-110), Under 54 (-115)

Nevada vs Notre Dame College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks PDF Print E-mail

Nevada vs Notre Dame College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks: The Nevada Wolf Pack are in South Bend, Indiana today to take on No. 23 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish will try to pick up where they left off last season by beating a WAC school in dominating fashion. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30pm ET on NBC. College football predictions at Sportsbook.com have the Golden Domers pegged as a -14.5 against the spread home favorite in this afternoon battle.

Notre Dame finished 7-6 last year, rebounding from a dismal 3-9 Nevada vs Notre Dame College Football Predictions, Odds & Pickscampaign in 2007. Charlie Weis' squad capped off the season with a 49-21 over Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. The easy victory along with 15 starters and 44 lettermen returning to South Bend has Irish fans thinking about a possible BCS bowl birth.

The offense, which averaged 24.7 points and 355 yards per contest last season, should see drastic improvement in 2008. Junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen made big strides last year, throwing for 3172 yards and 25 touchdowns, and the offensive line returns eight of the top 10 from a season ago. Also back are Clausen's top targets, Golden Tate and Michael Floyd. The pair combined for 106 receptions, 1799 yards, and 17 touchdowns last season.

The Irish defense, which will have its hands full today, returns eight starters from a unit that held teams to 22.2 points per game. Senior safety Kyle McCarthy is back to lead the secondary while the front seven takes shape under the influence of several highly touted recruits.

The Wolf Pack, led by Head Coach Chris Ault (25th year at the school), come into today's game ready to make a name for themselves. Nevada went 7-6 last season and appears to be ready to do something with 14 starters and 45 lettermen returning to Reno.

The offense certainly knows how to get it done as it produced an average of 37.6 points and 509 yards per game in 2008. It will again be led by the dynamic duo of Colin Kaepernick and Vai Taua. Kaepernick threw for 2849 yards and 22 touchdowns in his sophomore season while rushing for 1130 yards and 17 touchdowns. Taua, meanwhile, scampered for 1521 and 15 touchdowns out of the backfield.

If the Wolf Pack defense can find a way to slow Notre Dame down, the offense has enough firepower to keep them in this game.

Sportsbook.com Nevada vs Notre Dame College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks:

Nevada Wolf Pack +14.5 (-105), Over 62 (-110), +460 (Moneyline)

Notre Dame Fighting Irish -14.5 (-105), Under 62 (-110), -620 (Moneyline)

Georgia vs Oklahoma State College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks PDF Print E-mail

Saturday, 05 September 2009

Georgia vs Oklahoma State College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks: The No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs square off against the No. 9 Oklahoma State Cowboys today in the most anticipated matchup of the weekend. The two power conference teams will kick things off at 3:30pm ET at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma (ABC). Sportsbetting.com has the Pokes listed as a -5.5 against the spread favorite in their college football predictions, odds & picks.

Last year Oklahoma State finished with nine wins for just the secondGeorgia vs Oklahoma State College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks time this decade, going 9-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Cowboys were led by a powerful offense that featured quarterback Zac Robinson (3064 pass yards, 562 rush yards), running back Kendall Hunter (1555 yards, 16 touchdowns), and wide receiver Dez Bryant (87 catches, 1480 yards, 19 touchdowns). All three of those players are back this year, along with one of the best offensive lines in the country.

The Cowboys front five allowed just 16 sacks a season ago and were intrumental in producing an average of 245 rush yards per game (5.5 yards per carry).

Oklahoma State's defense had some lackluster numbers playing in the Big 12, allowing 28.1 points and 406 yards per game. Five starters are back from that unit, which will be coached by new defensive coordinator Bill Young.

The Georgia Bulldogs closed out the 2008 season at 10-3 after getting a 24-12 win over Michigan State in the Cap One Bowl. Head Coach Mark Richt has 15 starters and 49 lettermen from last year's team back in Athens this season. Among those gone, however, are quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was selected first overall in the NFL draft, and running back Knowshon Moreno.

Senior passer Joe Cox will replace Stafford under center while sophomore Caleb King will assume Moreno's role in the backfield. Cox played sparingly last season, completing 11 passes in 15 attemtps for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

The Georgia defense has eight starters back and should improve on last year's mediocre numbers (24.5 points and 312 yards per game allowed). The unit will be anchored by first team SEC linebacker Rennie Curran. Curran led the Bulldogs with 115 tackles in 2008; he also had three sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Game Note: Bulldogs quarterback Cox has battled flu like symptoms this week and traveled to Stillwater seperately from the team. He is, however, suppose to start the game. Oklahoma State lost one of their starting linebackers, Orie Lemon, to a torn ACL last week while their starting tight end left the team for undisclosed reasons.

Sportsbetting.com Georgia vs Oklahoma State College Football Predictions, Odds & Picks:

Georgia Bulldogs +5.5 (-105), Over 61 (-110)

Oklahoma State Cowboys -5.5 (-105), Under 61 (-110)
