Wake Forest is 10-2 overall and finished first in the Atlantic Division with a 6-2 league mark. The Demon Deacons set the school record for overall wins and conference wins, while finishing with a winning record in the ACC for the first time since 1988 and for just the seventh time overall. Wake Forest is unbeaten on the road in 2006 posting a 6-0 mark to become the first school in league history to record six road victories in a season.

Wake freshman quarterback Riley Skinner leads the league in passing efficiency (142.1), while posting the best completion percentage in the ACC at 67.3 percent. In four league road games, Skinner completed 72 percent of his passes for 476 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception.

The Deacons rank third in the ACC in rushing offense averaging 158.1 yards per game. Kenneth Moore leads the Wake Forest rushing attack with 396 yards and posted a career-high 165 rushing yards as Wake Forest defeated Maryland in College Park to clinch the Atlantic Division title.
Georgia Tech is 9-3 overall and finished a top the Coastal Division with a league mark of 7-1. The Yellow Jackets have won four of the last five games in the series against Wake Forest and eight of the last 10 encounters. The Yellow Jackets have won at least nine games for the third time in the last nine years and for the first time under head coach Chan Gailey.
The Yellow Jackets boast the second-best rushing offense in the league (164.2), while ranking third in the ACC in total offense at 324.2. Junior wide receiver Calvin Johnson leads the ACC in receiving yards (899) and touchdown receptions (13) and is second in the league in receptions with 59. Tashard Choice has rushed for a league-high 1,204 yards and is the only back in the ACC to average over 100 yards per game in 2006 (100.3). Choice has grounded out 100 yards in five straight games and in seven of Tech's last eight games. Senior quarterback Reggie Ball has thrown for 1,691 yards this season and a league-best 20 touchdowns.
